Rabbitts Pub Galway Murty Rabbitts

Rabbitts pub is located on Forster street just a minutes walk from Eyre Sq. This pub was run by the well known Rabbitt family since the 1870’s and is one of Galway’s oldest pubs. The premises was bought with money from the San Francisco Gold rush. Cormac O'Coineen(Rabbitt in Irish) returned from the US where he had earned his fortune in Gold. After opening a mill in Quay Street which burnt down he opened a bar and grocery store in the current premises on Foster Street. The presence of a weekly livestock market nearby meant Rabbitts was a busy venue. The premises was known as Tigh Cormac at this time and it was only later when his son took over that it became known as Rabbitts. A notable descendant of Cormac is well known Galway entrepreneur and sailor Enda O'Coineen .

In 2007 Rabbitts left the business and is now being run by Galway publican Val Hanley and his son Ciaran.Inside you will find a very well decorated comfortable bar with lots of unusual seating including some large wooden throne style chairs. The large open fireplace really adds to the cosy atmosphereand there are lots of old artefacts scattered throughout the pub. The beer Garden out the back has recently been enlarged and is now one of the best in the City with a large decked area. The stables in this area were once home to horses from the Galway omnibus company which Cormac O'Coineen had a share in.

Rabbitt's also hasa well stocked off licence on the premises. Rabbitts has a loyal following among older Galwegians and Galway business people.Food is served throughout the day Monday to Saturday from 9.30am - 7pm with the normal pub dishes available such as Lasagne, soups, salads, burgers and steak.

Live music can be heard from Friday to Sunday with a selection of folk and Trad music acts.Dusty Banjo's have just started a new Thursday night session. Rabbitts is a definately worth a visit.
