Sheridans On The Docks is no longer trading at New Dock Road as of Thursday last, the 27th of May. The landlord repossessed the building on the night of Wednesday the 26th.
The lease we had on the property specifed that we must hold our ordinary licence and our early morning general examption licence. We however chose never to open our pub as an early house. On May the 30th 2008 the law changed, stating no general exemption could be renewed if not in operation. The landlord chose to use this clause in our lease as grounds for repossession. He also chose to take this action one week before The Powerboat Festival and the start of our busy Summer season.
Seamus and Enda and all the staff at Sheridans On The Docks are devastated by these actions. However we have all immensely enjoyed our time down the docks and hope that all our loyal customers over the last 4 years both in the pub and the restaurant have had as much fun as we have.
We would like to thank sincerely our fantastic suppliers and wonderful customers. We would also like to say how humbled we are by all the support we have received from the people of Galway over the last week.
We are now in the process of lodging a planning application for another wonderful building in Galway City and hope to see you there by the end of the year.

Sheridan's on the docks is housed in an old building dating from the 1800's which has been brightened up considerably in the past few years. Most Galwegians will remember it as Padraigs, it's previous incarnation which was an early opening house(7am) and the old 6 day opening public house licence still applies here so its not open on Sundays The building itself is well known due to it being the birthplace of Galway writer Padraig O'Conaire. They also have the self professed "cheapest pint in town".
The premises has definitely kept all of its character while adding a touch of class. The black slate floors and rustic walls make Sheridan's a comfortable venue for a nice pint on a cold evening especially with their small open fire. The presence of a large carefully put together wine list adds to the appeal of Sheridans and coupled with the candle lit areas you will struggle to find a more romantic pub setting in Galway.The pub looks out onto the docks and this has traditionally been a sailors hangout.In recent years it has also attracted a local crowd especially those involved in the vibrant Arts scene in the City. Occasionally local artists work will be showcased on the premises.
The Sheridan family who also own Sheridan's cheesemongers have added a highly appetising menu consisting of alot of locally produced artisan produce. The rare roast beef is a particular favourite of ours. Sheridans is open from 4.30 in the afternoon onwards and food is served until 9.They also have one of the largest selection of beer in Galway including Galway Hooker ale , Kinsale lager and O'Hara's stout.
A restaurant which opens from 6.30pm until 10.30pm is located upstairs and their menu can be seen on their website.
