Opened in Summer 2007, Eight definitely brought something new to the Galway Pub scene . Although originally conceived as a music venue it has now become one of the finest Gastro Pubs in town .The stout tables ,old wooden chairs and antique couches fit well in the glass fronted building. The small bar stocks a good range of drinks with beers such as Galway Hooker and Leffe on tap as well as the normal options. The menu concentrates on using fresh local produce and more importantly they consistently deliver excellent food. However, the prices are a little above the standard Pub food fare. Food is served late meaning 11pm which is definitely the latest Pub in town for food.
There is also a small Wine list although it is more than the majority of pubs plus there is a cocktail menu containing the usual suspects. Billing itself as a live music venue as well as bar, the large room is adaptable for most events be it DJ or Live Band and also occasionally salsa dancing. Regular Jazz sessions take place. For live schedule check out their website.
Eight is definitely something different for the Galway scene. Elements of a wine bar, European cafe, tapas bar and New York underground bar are fused together to make a venue that really works.
